To Editors

I have lost count of all the editors who have worked on my books over the last quarter century.

I have cursed them, slandered them, and upbraided them, but secretly I have always appreciated their efforts. My books have always been improved by them. To them I offer apologies for my intemperance and thanks for their invaluable contributions.

I dread to think what the books of the future will look like if computers make editors obsolete.
