Zelfstandig te lezen vijfde deel van de Rhanna-serie. Het romantische verhaal speelt zich af op een eilandje dat deel uitmaakt van de Schotse Hebriden. De eilandbewoners hebben onderling een hechte band en de sociale controle is groot. Wanneer in het gezin van Ruth en Lorn tijdelijk een vriendin het huishouden waarneemt en Lorn een verhouding met haar begint dan blijft dit niet onopgemerkt. Als dit Ruth na een verblijf in het ziekenhuis ter ore komt, vertrekt zij naar het vasteland. Lorn, geheel ontredderd, krijgt een ongeluk met zijn tractor en heeft een langdurige herstelperiode. Door bemiddeling van vrienden komt Ruth terug en wordt de vrede hersteld. Het leven op het eiland wordt uitvoerig en met veel details beschreven. Tot slot is en blijft iedereen gelukkig getrouwd.
