Gerard is net verhuisd naar een nieuwe stad en gaat de buurt verkennen. Op deze manier ontmoet hij een dakloze man met een bijzondere sjaal, namelijk een levende vos. Met deze man sluit hij vriendschap en met zijn hulp komt hij meer te weten over daklozen en krijgt hij zelf ook meer grip op zijn eigen leven. Het verhaal wordt in ongeveer 50 korte hoofdstukken verteld. Door deze opzet leest het geheel gemakkelijk, maar het blijft wel een zwaar onderwerp. In het verhaal zijn geen illustraties opgenomen; alleen op de voorkant van het boek staat een foto van een vos. Voor geoefende lezers de moeite waard. Het zal zeker binnen een thema over daklozen goed tot zijn recht komen bij kinderen vanaf ca. 10 jaar. Dit is het eerste jeugdboek van de schrijver, die ook nog genomineerd werd voor de enige jaarlijkse kinderboekenprijs in Ierland.
